The evolution of patient expectations in medical aesthetics

Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company and global leader in medical aesthetics, has announced new global consumer research highlighting how patient expectations in medical aesthetics are evolving.

It will present the next evolution of its AA Signature™ framework, developed to address this changing treatment need, at the AMWC 2026 in Monaco.

Allergan Aesthetics’ new research found that 74% intend to improve facial skin quality in the next 12 months, while 63% cite improving elasticity and addressing ageing as top aesthetic goals(p33). Around 30% identify skin quality improvement as the starting point for a multi-treatment plan.

The findings are based on one of the largest global consumer studies exploring attitudes toward aesthetic treatments, surveying more than 12,000 beauty-involved consumers across nine countries.

The research provides new insight into how patients are navigating an expanding range of aesthetic options and the growing role practitioners play in guiding treatment decisions.

At AMWC 2026, Allergan Aesthetics will launch the research findings in a new report Layered Beauty: The New Aesthetic Mindset. The report highlights that 62% find multiple aesthetic treatments appealing, 59% are likely to adopt a structured multi-treatment approachand 78% would feel more satisfied with their aesthetic journey working to an agreed long-term plan with their practitioner.
